Tomino's Hell

I don't get why people keep saying something written by a popular author is cursed.
That's just plain stupid; it's not like writers are magicians (beyond their beautiful use of words, of course)

Yeah, anyway, I like the colouring as it reminds me of the illustrations found in children’s books (particularly Alice’s Adventures) – I’ve got a little trouble to comprehend the scene without context though.

Could someone explain it to me, please?
